School Governor

We have opportunities within our Local Governing Board (LGB) for individuals who are interested in supporting our school and the children and young people in our community.

Bosworth Academy is a popular and expanding 11-19 school, within the LiFE Multi-Academy Trust, which is increasingly the school of choice for parents in the area. We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic ADT Technician. The successful candidate will have a real passion for the subject and the ability to translate this for the students in their care. You will have the desire to ensure that our core value of ‘no student will underachieve’ is fulfilled.

We have high expectations of all our staff, which makes our faculty an exciting and progressive environment in which to work. The team is forward thinking and extremely supportive of each other, working collaboratively to secure high standards of teaching and learning. We are passionate in our goal of ensuring that our students get every opportunity ‘to be the best they can possibly be’.

The Trust is a Charitable Company, with a single group of Members and a single board of Trustees. The Local Governing Bodies (LGBs) are Committees of the LiFE Trust Board.

The LGB is responsible for holding the Headteacher and senior leadership of the school to account and for providing assurance to the Trust Board. They also support the Headteacher and executive team of their school to undertake their local leadership role as well as acting as a group to reflect the needs and views of the local community in which the school operates.

The LGB meets half termly, 6 times per year. Governors can also act as designated leads on key issues such as Safeguarding and SEND and may be asked to undertake school visits to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school and its curriculum. School visits will help governors to understand more about their school and the reality of school life.

All governors are unpaid volunteers and are drawn from a wide variety of different backgrounds - those with experience at board level, but also those with early skills (where training can be offered) who wish to explore board leadership and develop their skills further. Becoming a school governor requires drive and commitment however there are many professional and personal rewards. We welcome applications from individuals who can bring a wide range of skills to the current LGB’s including expertise from their professional lives, educational and non-educational.

WHAT IMPACT WILL YOU HAVE:

Vision - Bosworth Academy is consistently exceptional in its delivery of outcomes for young people in our community. Bosworth Academy is an unstoppable force for affecting social mobility.

Values - ‘No student will underachieve’ means: outstanding outcomes for every child, of every ability, from every background, no matter what the barriers.

‘Be better than you thought you could be’ means: we understand that our role is to ensure students reach their potential, it is to help define that potential.

Values at Bosworth academy

The heart of our vision is that ‘no student underachieves’ with this not just limited to outstanding academic achievement but also developing outstanding citizens with a strong sense of identity and values. This is made clear by the vision at the centre of our wheel – ‘Character Building – Spiritually, Morally, Culturally and Socially’ and the words and phrases in blue round the outside of the wheel. We have also spent time developing a ‘Fourth Way’ approach which is about building a research-based learning community which provides the students with the opportunity to interact and learn about the local, national and international community.

It is important that schools promote values and Bosworth Academy has always had a strong commitment to having opportunities for students to develop their values. Students prepare for the wider world by demonstrating the ‘6 Cs’ of Global Competencies which provides a platform for them to be highly desirable for future employers. These 6 Cs, endorsed by the OECD, are the following:

Character

Proactive stance toward life and learning. Grit, tenacity, perseverance and resilience. Empathy, compassion and integrity in action.

Citizenship

Global perspective with a compassion for diverse values and world views. Genuine interest in human and environmental sustainability. Solves ambiguous and complex problems to benefit citizens.

Collaboration

Works interdependently as a team. Demonstrates interpersonal, team-related, social, emotional and intercultural skills. Manages team dynamics and challenges.

Communication

Communication is designed for an audience with purpose and impact. Voice and identity expressed to advance humanity. Reflects to further develop and improve communication.

Creativity

Economic and social entrepreneurialism. Asks the right inquiry questions and pursues novel ideas and solutions. Demonstrates leadership to turn ideas into action.

Critical Thinking

Evaluates information and arguments. Makes connections and identifies patterns with meaningful knowledge construction. Experiments, reflects and takes action on ideas in the real world. Students at the Academy have a wide variety of opportunities to explore and develop these values through lessons, tutor time, assemblies, extra-curricular activities, visitors to school and visits out of school.
