37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (8am – 4pm Monday to Thursday & 8am – 3.30pm Friday)
The Headteacher and Governing Body are wishing to appoint a proactive and compassionate Behaviour and Inclusion Mentor to join our dedicated SEN Department. Countesthorpe Academy is a popular and expanding 11-19 school, within the LiFE Multi-Academy Trust, which is increasingly the school of choice for parents in the area. Job Role
We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Behaviour and Inclusion Mentor.
Core Purpose
Behaviour and Inclusion mentoring is a proactive, student-centered support process designed to motivate and guide young people to overcome social, emotional, and behavioural barriers to learning. Focused heavily on early intervention, the role helps students develop vital self-regulation skills, accountability, and personal resilience to prevent exclusions and reduce underachievement.
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated, compassionate, and resilient member of support staff to act as a bridge between academic and pastoral teams. The successful candidate will provide structured guidance and “Appropriate Provision” for learners within Countesthorpe Academy, empowering them to engage positively, flourish in their lessons, and achieve their full potential.
Requirements
To carry out the assigned professional duties in accordance with and subject to the provisions of the Education Acts.
To adhere to any relevant Orders and Regulations including the most recent School Pay Policy.
To adhere to any rules, regulations, policies laid down by the Governing Board.
To carry out any duties required by the Headteacher.
Accountability/Responsible to:
Assistant Headteachers / Behaviour and Inclusion Manager / SLT Link
Key Relationships/Liaison with:
Extended Leadership Team, SENDCO, Pastoral Heads of Year (HOY), Behaviour Support Team, Learning Support Department, Class Teachers, Parents/Carers, and Representatives of External Support Agencies.
Objectives:-
The Behaviour and Inclusion Mentor will:
Pastoral Support & Interventions
Support and motivate students to develop their social and emotional skills, helping them engage positively and successfully with school life.
Provide targeted 1:1 or small group mentoring to help underachieving or vulnerable students overcome behavioural barriers and raise their personal aspirations.
Work collaboratively alongside colleagues to lead, manage, and monitor internal reflection or inclusion spaces, ensuring they remain calm, productive, and purposeful.
Respond efficiently and constructively to on-call requests, providing dynamic de-escalation when students experience crisis or distress.
Strategy Implementation & Reflection
Actively assist students in understanding and navigating academy behaviour systems, rules, consequences, and routines.
Help implement structured Pastoral Support Programmes (PSPs) and customized behaviour plans for students at risk of suspension or exclusion.
Guide students through reflective processes following behavioural incidents, assisting them in establishing positive, alternative coping mechanisms.
Work proactively with disadvantaged groups to close progress gaps linked to conduct, engagement, or attendance.
Communication & Collaboration
Establish respectful, firm, fair, and empathetic relationships with students, consistently acting as an inspiring role model.
Liaise with parents and carers via phone, email, and face-to-face meetings to build collaborative partnerships that bridge home and school expectations.
Keep precise, highly confidential records of student conduct, interventions, and progress, updating relevant staff and external partners regularly.
